FAST Assists During Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew made landfall in the US on Saturday, October 8th.  While the center of the storm remained over 100 miles from Fayetteville, our area received record rainfall.  It was a "perfect storm" of events.  We had already seen over 10 inches of rain the previous week, leaving the area saturated.  As the tropical moisture of the hurricane pushed into our area, it was met by a cold front coming in from the west.  The two collided over Cumberland County, resulting in 14.9 inches of rain in less than 24 hours - a record none of us ever want to see broken.

Many people in our area were caught off guard.  Streets quickly flooded and families were forced to evacuate their homes.  Some were stranded in their cars as the water rushed by.  As the City's Police and Fire departments rescued people from the floodwaters, FAST was there to transport them to the safety of a nearby shelter.  We want to highlight and thank the FAST team members that selflessly served their community during the storm.  We are proud to work beside you!
